An Austin backyard turned into a room the house added

An Austin backyard turned into a room the house added: shade to eat under, fire for fall, planting that survives Texas heat.

The brief, verbatim

We've been in our house in Austin for nine years and the backyard is still builder-grade dirt and a sad strip of grass. Two kids, a dog, and we entertain maybe twice a month when it's not brutal out. I want the whole yard designed: somewhere to eat outside under shade, a fire spot for fall, planting that can survive Texas heat without me babying it, and it has to feel like a room we added to the house, not a yard we decorated. Budget for the build is around $60,000. I want a plan I can hand to a landscaper for bids: the layout, the planting, the materials, and what it looks like in the evening when we'd actually be out there. Make us want to live outside.

What the room did

The bound plan set a landscaper can bid from: the scaled site plan, the three zones, a planting schedule of 403 dog-safe plants, the materials, the phased budget against the $60K, and the evening renderings.
