The brief, verbatim
I want to plan the trip of a lifetime around a great train journey, and I want to see it before I commit to anything.
Take me through the most extraordinary rail journeys in the world, the ones worth building a whole trip around: the Swiss Alps, the Canadian Rockies, the Norwegian fjords, Japan, the Andes, wherever the most breathtaking ones are. Pick the best eight or ten and make the case for each.
For each one, show me where it goes and what makes it special, and give me real imagery so I can feel it: the train in the landscape, the view out the window, the light at the best time of day. Tell me the route, how long it takes, the best season to go, and what I should know before booking.
Then tell me straight: if you could only take one, which would it be and why.
Make it beautiful, and make me want to book a ticket by the end.
What the room did
The atlas: ten great journeys with commissioned photography, where each goes and what makes it special, and the booking realities down to which side of the Bernina to sit on. The Absence page says plainly why the Trans-Siberian is out, and the verdict names the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, with the VIA Rail Canadian as the honourable fallback.
