Travel & Journeys · Family atlas
A family atlas of every house the stories start with
Fifty years married, eleven moves, three countries, and every family story starting with which house it happened in.
The brief, verbatim
My parents hit 50 years married in December and they've moved eleven times in those years, three countries, army postings, then his job, then the house they finally kept. Every family story starts with which house it happened in. I want to give them an atlas of our family: each place drawn like a real map, the house, the street, the corner store, marked with what happened there, the dog that ran away in Germany, the kitchen where my sister was almost born. I have addresses, photos, and four decades of stories collected from all five of us kids. It should feel like a beautiful old atlas, something that outlives all of us. There is nothing like this in any store, which is exactly the point.
What the room did
A 23-page family atlas: each place drawn like a real old map, the house, the street, the corner store marked with what happened there, bound to outlive everyone in it.
