The restored 1920s bungalow from the front walk in late afternoon light: cream siding, moss trim, two chairs on the porch and lamplight in the windows.

Come in.
The kettle's on.

Alder House is a med spa in a restored 1920s bungalow in Boise's North End. There's a garden out back, tea on the porch, and four people inside who would like to meet you.

An open five-panel fir door with a brass knob, a sunlit cream room and a garden window beyond it.

Person first

You choose a person first

Before anything else, you choose a person. We know this because we would too.

So that is where we start. Not with a menu or a list, but with who you'll sit across from, how they listen, and whether you feel at ease in the room. Everything else can wait until you do.

Meet the four of us
An old double-hung window in a plaster wall, a linen curtain lifting, sunlight throwing the window's shadow across the wall and floor.

Fir and plaster

The house

The floors are old fir and they creak in the hall. The walls are plaster, a little uneven, the way walls were made a hundred years ago. Light comes in sideways through the front windows in the morning and from the garden in the afternoon.

We kept the porch, the built-ins and the bones of the place, and we made the rooms clean and quiet behind their doors. People tell us it feels like a friend's home. That was the idea.

Read our story
Two porch chairs around a small oak table set with a cream teapot, two green cups, honey and a sprig of mint, the garden beyond the railing.

A visit

A visit, more or less

You come up the walk and the porch is there first, with its chairs and a pot of tea. Someone you've already met by name comes out to say hello. You go in when you're ready. The room is quiet. The door closes softly. You talk before anything else happens, and nobody is in a hurry.

When you leave, it's back out the front door and down the steps, usually a little slower than you came in.

What your first visit is like
A cream enamel kettle steaming on a worn butcher-block counter beside a speckled teapot and two moss-green cups.
