Hey Laura, I'm a searcher, and the owner of a 40 year old pest control company doesn't take a call from a 32 year old with an MBA. My letter reads like a private equity form letter and my site is a template. Make the letter I send to owners, one page, for print and for email; a one page about me that goes with it; and my site, live: home, about me, what I look for, what happens after you call, and a page for owners with the questions they ask. It has to make a retiring owner want to call me back, and sound like a person who will run the business, not flip it. This is a sample; the search fund, the searcher, the investors and the facts are invented. I'm Mateo Lindgren of Harpeth Bridge Partners in Nashville. Fourteen investors back my search. I'm looking for one business services company in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama or Georgia, with $2 million to $5 million in yearly profit and an owner ready to retire: pest control, HVAC service, commercial cleaning, fire protection. What I promise an owner: the name stays, the team stays, the location stays, they can stay on as long as they like, and I move to their town. I grew up in Chattanooga, where my parents ran a hardware store for 26 years; I ran a 220 person warehouse operation in Memphis for four years; then business school. Reach me at mateo@harpethbridge.example or 615 555 0142; the site lives at harpethbridge.example. I want it plain, warm and Southern, never Wall Street.
