A family trip of a lifetime, front door to front door

Two weeks in New Zealand for a family of four, handled the way the best travel agency in the world would.

The brief, verbatim

I want the trip of a lifetime for my family and I want someone to handle every single piece of it. Two weeks in New Zealand. Me, my wife, and our two kids, twelve and nine. We have never done a trip like this and I do not want to plan it myself.

Treat this the way the best travel agency in the world would. Five stars from the moment we walk out our front door to the moment we walk back in. I want to see the whole thing built out, A to Z, nothing left for me to figure out.

Plan all of it:

  • Getting there and back. The car to the airport, the flights, the seats, the layovers handled, the arrival. Every transfer between every place, so we are never standing somewhere with bags wondering what happens next.
  • Where we stay. Every night accounted for, the lodges and hotels worth the money and why, the rooms that fit a family of four.
  • The route and the rhythm. Both islands or one, how we move between them, how many nights where. Build in real rest so it does not feel like a forced march with two kids.
  • What we actually do. The famous things done properly, the things nobody finds, and the moments my kids will still talk about when they are forty. Glaciers, fjords, whatever New Zealand does better than anywhere on earth.
  • The food. The meals worth planning a day around, booked.
  • The details. What to pack for the seasons we hit, what the kids need, what happens if the weather turns.

Show it to me day by day so I can see the trip before we go, and show me the places with real imagery so I can feel it. I want my wife to look at this and get emotional.

Then give me the practical spine: what it costs, what is booked versus what needs booking, and what I need to do versus what is handled.

Make me feel like I have the best travel agent in the world and I never have to think about a single logistic. Just show up and live it.

What the room did

The keepsake book: fourteen days, front door to front door, every place with its real image. Beside it the Practical Spine, the machinery under the magic: honest cost ranges, what's already handled versus the short list only the family can lock, packing for a southern summer, and weather Plan Bs baked into the route so a Milford fog can't sink the trip.
