Spaces & Architecture · Modern glass pavilion on a Texas Hill Country ridge
Ridge House
A modern glass pavilion on a Hill Country ridge, opening west to an infinity edge and the sunset: the heart of the house is not a room, it is the edge.
The brief, verbatim
Design me a house from nothing: a modern courtyard house in the Texas Hill Country, on a ridge with long views west for the sunsets. Limestone and glass, deep roof overhangs, water somewhere near the door.
What the studio made
Ridge House, an 18-spread concept book in the architect's-monograph register: the withheld arrival from the east, the release when the west wall dissolves, the great room, terrace and pool as one continuous plane out to the valley, the five materials, and the drawings to scale — site plan, floor plan, west elevation and two sections, including the cut that proves the pool lip, terrace and great-room floor run level. The four chosen views ride alongside.
