The brief, verbatim
I want you to design me a house from nothing. A modern courtyard house in the Texas Hill Country, on a ridge with long views west for the sunsets. Around 6,000 square feet, single story, four bedrooms. The feeling I want: limestone and glass and deep roof overhangs, water somewhere near the entry, a house that feels calm and expensive without shouting. Indoor-outdoor living is the whole point: the living room should open completely to a covered outdoor room with a fireplace, and the pool should feel like part of the architecture, not an accessory. I want to fall in love with this place: show me the exteriors at different times of day, the big living spaces, the primary suite, that outdoor room. And I want to feel like I'm walking the property, not looking at pictures of it. This is a concept for me. There's no real lot yet, so you have total freedom. Make it spectacular.
What the room did
The concept book: the two-court parti, the house through the day, the arrival and the reveal, the great room, the primary suite, the pool as architecture, the material story. A fifty-second walking film toured the property in the room.
