Spaces & Architecture · A qualifications pack laid to a school committee's scoring, and a walkthrough film of a past school
Fernhollow K-8 Qualifications Pack
The finished work
A sample qualifications pack for a small architecture firm answering a school RFQ: every section is one of the committee's five scoring criteria, in their order, with a walkthrough film of a past school beside it.
What they asked for, word for word
I run an 11 person architecture firm in Wisconsin. Most of our work is public: school additions, small town libraries, a fire station. We lose about half the RFQs we answer, and every one is written at night.
One is due on the 14th: a K-8 addition outside Green Bay. A committee scores it on experience with similar schools, the team, our approach, schedule, and community engagement. Lay out our qualifications to their scoring criteria so the committee can score us page by page: a cover letter, the team, project sheets for our last three schools, our approach and the schedule. Add a short walkthrough film of one of the three schools that we can link from the proposal.
This is a sample for our page: make up an illustrative firm, an illustrative RFQ and illustrative past schools, and label it clearly as sample work on the cover and in the footers.
What the studio made
A 17 page qualifications pack for a K-8 addition and renovation, laid out so a committee can score it page by page: a cover letter; The committee's five criteria as the pack's own sections, in their order, each with its points at the head and a box to score it; Project sheets for three past schools under experience; The team; The approach, which phases the work so school runs with no portables; The schedule, drawn to the due date; And community engagement. Beside it, a walkthrough film of one of the past schools, from the front walk through the commons, the classroom wing and the gym. The firm, the district, the schools and every figure are a sample made for the example, and every page says so.
