Restorative dentistry
Dental bridges
A bridge replaces one or two missing teeth by anchoring a false tooth to the teeth on either side. It is fixed in place; you don’t take it out.
- Time in the chair
- 60–120 min, then about 45 min
- Visits
- Two, 2–3 weeks apart
- Numbing
- Yes, at the first visit
- Typical cost
- $2,000–$5,000

What it is
A traditional bridge is three or more crowns joined together. The two outer ones fit over your neighbouring teeth, and the one in the middle fills the gap. It restores your bite, stops the other teeth drifting, and looks like natural teeth.
The trade-off is that the teeth on either side need to be shaped for crowns. If they are healthy and untouched, an implant may be kinder to them. We lay out both options side by side, with costs.
Who does this here
What to expect, step by step
Planning
X-rays and a scan to make sure the neighbouring teeth and gums are strong enough to carry a bridge.
Preparing the anchor teeth
With the area numb, the two anchor teeth are shaped and scanned. You leave with a temporary bridge.
At the lab
Your bridge is made in two to three weeks.
The fitting
We check fit, colour and bite, then cement it, and show you how to clean under the false tooth with a floss threader or water flosser.
How long it takes
Two visits two to three weeks apart: 60 to 120 minutes, then about 45.
The anchor teeth may be sensitive for a few days.
What it costs
$2,000–$5,000
Typical U.S. range, for a typical three-tooth bridge, before insurance
Most patients pay somewhere in this range. Your exact cost depends on how many teeth are involved and the material.
Most PPO plans cover bridges as major work at around 50% after the deductible.
This is a guide, not our fee and not a quote. After your exam you get a written estimate, and we check your insurance, before anything starts. Call (602) 555-0148 for a quote. Where these ranges come from.
Questions patients ask
Bridge or implant?
A bridge is quicker (weeks rather than months) and often cheaper up front. An implant leaves the neighbouring teeth alone and is easier to clean. We explain which suits your mouth.
How long do bridges last?
Often 10 to 15 years, with good cleaning underneath.
