Dental implants
An implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up: a small titanium post in the jawbone with a crown on top. It looks, feels and works like a natural tooth.
- Time in the chair
- About 1 hour to place
- Visits
- Three or four, over 3–6 months
- Numbing
- Yes, local
- Typical cost
- $3,750–$5,750 per tooth

What it is
The implant itself is a titanium post that takes the place of the tooth’s root. Over a few months the bone grows tightly around it. Then a connector (an abutment) and a crown are attached. It doesn’t lean on the neighbouring teeth for support and, cared for well, it can last for decades.
Implants need enough healthy bone. If a tooth has been missing a long time, a bone graft may be needed first. Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes lower the success rate, and we talk honestly about both.
Who does this here
What to expect, step by step
Consultation and 3D scan
A 3D X-ray shows the bone in detail. We plan the implant’s exact position and give you a written estimate for every stage.
Placing the implant
With the area numb, the implant is placed in about an hour. Most patients say it was easier than having a tooth out. Dr. Alcott places most single implants here; complex cases go to an oral surgeon we work with.
Healing
Three to four months for the bone to bond to the implant. If the gap shows when you smile, you can wear a temporary tooth in the meantime.
The crown
We scan the implant, a lab makes the crown, and we attach it.
How long it takes
Start to finish usually takes three to six months, longer if a graft is needed.
After placement, expect swelling and soreness for two to three days. Most people are back at work the next day.
What it costs
$3,750–$5,750
Typical U.S. range, per tooth for the implant, connector and crown together, before insurance
Most patients pay somewhere in this range. Your exact cost depends on whether a bone graft or an extraction is needed first, and the crown material.
Many plans exclude implants or pay only part, sometimes toward the crown. We check your plan before you decide.
This is a guide, not our fee and not a quote. After your exam you get a written estimate, and we check your insurance, before anything starts. Call (602) 555-0148 for a quote. Where these ranges come from.
Questions patients ask
Does getting an implant hurt?
Placement is done numb. Afterward, most people manage with over-the-counter pain relief for a few days.
Am I too old for an implant?
Overall health and bone matter more than age. Many of our implant patients are in their seventies and eighties.
